Biography Frederick IX (Frederick IX)
(1899-1972) Born March 11, 1899 in a castle near Copenhagen Sorgenfri. Belonged to the Schleswig-Holstein-Zonderburgskoy branch of the dynasty. He received a bachelor's degree at the University of Copenhagen, and in 1917 joined the Danish Military Academy. In 1935 he married Princess Ingrid, the daughter of Swedish Crown Prince Gustav Adolf. He studied methods of governance and within 35 years of his stay Crown Prince often gave advice to Christian X, and in some cases actually acted as regent. During the German occupation of Denmark during the Second World War, inspired and supported the resistance movement. Inherited the throne 20 April 1947. March 27, 1953 by an act of succession to the throne, adopted by the Danish Parliament, the heir to the throne was recognized as the eldest daughter of King Princess Margrethe. Frederick and Queen Ingrid visited many countries including the United States in 1960. Frederick died in Copenhagen on 14 January 1972.
