Born November 14, 1779 in Copenhagen. His poem Golden Horn (Guldhornene, 1802), introduced in the Danish literature fresh, updating jet. C Oehlenschlöºger this time devoted himself entirely to creativity, already in 1803 started his collection of poems in 1803 (Digte, 1803). It included a pretty Representation of drama on the night of Ivan Kupala (Sankt Hansaften-spil). The play Aladdin (Aladdin, 1805) is considered one of his masterpieces. Having achieved literary recognition, Oehlenschlöºger received from the Government grant for travel abroad. For four years absence, he wrote the tragedy Hakon Jarl (Hakon Jarl, 1805) and the romantic drama Axel and Valborg (Axel og Valborg, 1809).
Returning to Denmark, Oehlenschlöºger became professor of aesthetics at Copenhagen University. He wrote a novel in verse, Helge (Helge, 1814), Saga Roar (Hroars saga, 1817) and a cycle of mythological poems under the title The Gods of the North (Nordens Guder, 1818). Several tragedies composed in those years strengthened his glory and fame. Oehlenschlöºger had on Danish literature of greater influence than any other writer, except L. Holberg. Oehlenschlöºger died in Copenhagen on 20 January 1850.
