CRATE (Krates)

Krat of Mull; Krates, from Mull in Cilicia, the first half of II. BC. e., Greek scholar. Research to. were greatly influenced by the philosophy of the Stoics. He was the head of the philological school of Pergamum, as anomalist (a supporter of irregularities in the grammar) opposed the language of the theory of the Alexandrian school Aristarchus of Samothrace, which was analogistom (a supporter of regularity). Point of view to. the role of abnormalities in the development of language defended his talmidim (Gerodik, Tavrisk, Zenodot of Mull). Ok. 168 g. K. participated in the embassy of the king of Pergamum to Rome, where he broke his leg, and throughout the long period of forced stay there lectured on language, which aroused interest in Rome to philological studies. Allegorical interpretation of Homer's epic is set out in Egzegetichno-critical comments to the 'Iliad' and 'Odyssey'. He also studied geography and stoic view of the world tried to find more in the works of Homer, in the shield of Achilles, he saw the image of the cosmos.
