Biography NIKANDROV (Nikandros)
Nikandr; Nikandros, from colophon. Perhaps there were two of the poet Nikandra colophon that is related: 1. N., son of Anaxagoras, the epic poet, lived in the middle of the III. BC. e.; 2.N., son of the lady, the author of numerous didactic poems, one of his works, he devoted the king of Pergamum Attal III (138-133 g. BC. BC.), therefore, he lived in the second half of II in. BC. e. N., son of the lady, apparently, is the author of both poems, preserved under the name N.: Feriaka in 957 hexameter - the means against the bites of poisonous animals, and Antidotes (Aleksipharmaka) in 630 hexameter. The first product of H. describes ways to scare away poisonous animals, and then talks about some snakes and the effects of their poisonous bites in the end he gives guidance on the treatment of poisonings that followed the bite of. Antidotes describe the symptoms of poisoning by plant poisons and their means of prevention.
Also, N., son of the lady, should probably be ascribed to most of the other products, names or fragments which have survived under the name H. Fragmentarily preserved: Georgics (Georgika), breeding bees (Melissurgika), about snakes (Ophiaka), about hunting (Kynegetika), Changes (Heteroiumena), historical and ethnographic poem as Etolika, Kolofonika, Fivaida etc.. Apparently, H. wrote a prose collection of Homeric and dialectical glosses (Fr.). N. not a real scientist, and only processed in the poetic form of foreign works, such as Feriaka Alexandrian doctor Apollodorus. He wrote in the epic Homeric style, rich in rare and obscure words, sometimes changing their meaning, so his poems sometimes difficult to understand. Didactic and practical content is brought to these works known. He found followers among the later authors of didactic works. Georgics H. were apparently aware of Virgil, Ovid, and used the modified Antoni Liberal, Macer imitated Feriake and Oppian took a sample of work about hunting.
