FILET (Philetas)

Filet or Philetus Kossky; Philetas or Philitas, OK. 320-after 270 years. BC. e., Greek scholar and poet. He was the founder of the poetic circle on the island of Kos, where, probably spent his whole life. Educated heir to the throne of Egypt, Ptolemy II Philadelphus. Among his students and friends belonged: Zenodot, Germesianaks and, apparently, Theocritus. F. could not boast of good health, and his extraordinary thinness has been the target of jokes. As a distinguished and celebrated personality earned him the monument on the Spit. As a scientist, scholar (sometimes called a grammarian) F. interested in the so-called glosses, ie, rare words that require clarification. Survived 30 fragments of his philological work occasional glosses (Ataktoi glossai), explaining the Homeric, dialectal words and technical terms. F. wrote epigrams, elegies and other poems. Store 5 titles: Demeter, Hermes, Phone, epigrams and trinkets (Paignia). Demetra was an elegiac poem, which described the wanderings of the goddess, in particular its stay at the Spit. Hermes - epily, from which, by shifting Parthenios, until we heard the story of the novel Ulysses and his daughter master the winds of Aeolus, ended for the girl quickly and unfortunately. On the other products we know almost nothing. Perhaps F. was the author of love elegy, dedicated lover named Battis (or Bittis), but it was not subjective elegy, addressed to the beloved may be contained in the dedication.
