Biography GOTTSHALK Joachim (Gottschalk)
Gottshalk, Joachim (Gottschalk), (1904-1941), German actor. Born April 10, 1904 in family physician. In his youth, was a sailor. Becoming an actor, gained fame in Leipzig and Frankfurt. In 1938 he was invited to Berlin, where he acquired a wide popularity for his work in film. However, his subsequent career was in question because his wife was Jewish, and Gottshalk refused to leave her in spite of pressure from the Nazi authorities. He rejected a proposal to cooperate with the organization "Strength through Joy". The voltage was so great that Gottshalk and his wife decided to commit suicide. They committed suicide, poisoning before that their child. In his last letter Gottshalk quotes the poet Heinrich von Kleist, which he said before suicide: "The truth is that no one to help me on this earth."
