Biography Hans Oster (Oster)
Oster, Hans (Oster), (1888-1945), Chief of Staff of the Abwehr, one of the participants in the conspiracy against Hitler. Born August 9, 1888 in Dresden. In 1933-44 served as Chief of Staff and Deputy Inspector in the management of military intelligence, first under the command of Major-General Kurt von Bredow, and then - Admiral Wilhelm Canaris. Principled opponent of the Nazi regime, Oster was among those officers who wanted to remove Hitler from power. In the winter of 1939-40, he informed the Dutch and Norwegian governments that Hitler planned to commit aggression against those countries. His colleagues said that he was a man devoid of any ambition, sincere, honest and faithful. In April 1943, Oster has been dismissed from his post, and a year later dismissed from the army. He was arrested after the failure of the July 1944 conspiracy and executed together with Admiral Canaris and pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer in a concentration camp Flossenbц?rg April 9, 1945.
