Astronaut Russia. Born October 5, 1930 in the village Uzin Kiev region. During the Great Patriotic War was the territory occupied by Nazi troops. It has been fully trained to fly aboard Vostok type. 12 - 15 August 1962 made his first space flight on board the spaceship Vostok-4. For the first time in the world was committed group flight of two manned spacecraft. Mission duration was 2 days 22 hours 57 minutes. After the first flight continued training in the cosmonaut detachment. Trained to fly on "Moon" program, and after its closure was preparing to fly aboard Soyuz-type and orbital space station type Diamond. Without separation from work in 1968, he graduated from the Air Force Academy named H. E. Zhukovsky. 3 - 19 July 1974 made his second space flight as commander of the spacecraft Soyuz-14 and the orbital station Salyut-3. Twice Hero of the Soviet Union. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, Order of the Red Star and medals. Hero of Labor of Vietnam. Honorary citizen of Kaluga, Magnitogorsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Russia), Poltava, Zaporozhye (Ukraine). He was awarded a gold medal to. E. Tsiolkovsky Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the medal de Lavaux (FAI).
