1833 - 1915 The founder of medical entomology in Latin America. In 1855 he graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania (USA). Finlay was the first director of the Department of Health of Cuba (c 1902), later - the Supreme Junta of Health. The main contribution Finleya - opening a carrier of yellow fever and develop a system of preventive measures to combat it, which made it possible to eliminate the epidemic in Havana in 1902. The author of "Mosquito - hypothetical carrier of yellow fever" (1881). Member of the Havana Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences. Name Finlay are the Cuban Institute of Tropical Medicine and the Historical Museum of Sciences in Havana. By decision of the Government of Cuba to the Latin American Medicine Day is timed to the birthday Finleya.
