Sokolova Nina Yu

1916-1995
Born in g. Moscow in the family of Professor of Philology at Moscow University. She graduated from the department of zoology and comparative anatomy of invertebrates in 1939, she studied in graduate school and then worked all his life in the same department, first as an assistant, then - Senior Researcher. In his student years in 1938. participated in the expedition, which founded the White Sea Biological Station of Moscow State University. During the war years was a fighter fire brigade air defense, defended the university of Nazi incendiary bombs.

N.YU. Sokolov was the biggest expert on the fauna of fresh waters, in particular - on the fauna and ecology of reservoirs. Her doctoral dissertation in 1973, was devoted to the ecology of benthic invertebrates suburban reservoirs. N.YU. Sokolov was one of the authors of several collective monographs on the ecology and Mozhaiskogo Uchinskogo reservoirs and other reservoirs Moskvoretskaya system, was a brilliant expert on benthic invertebrate reservoirs Russia. Widely known of its work on one of the key groups of freshwater benthos - Chironomidae.

N.YU. Sokolova created and for many years led a group of researchers at the Department of freshwater invertebrates, under her leadership, is protected by dozens of dissertations and theses.
