Biography AKHMATOVA Yelizaveta
(1820 - 1904).
Born into a noble family of Astrakhan province. It works began to appear in print since the late forties. It was at the same time a great friend of O.I. Senkovsky, which has left some interesting memoirs (cm. "Russian Antiquities", 1889 and 1890), with NI. Pirogov (cm. there and in his "letters Sevastopol", St. Petersburg., 1907) and other literary and public figures. VI), but A. soon gave herself almost exclusively to translation work, . putting their translations in the "Library for Reading", . "Notes of the Fatherland" and other publications, . and since 1856 in its own monthly magazine: "The meeting of foreign novels (there was 30 years old),

Translating it (more than 300 novels) mostly Ponson du Terrail, Gabor, Xavier de Montepena and t. n. authors, resulting in the magazine unpopular provincial average public, but also printed the works of M. Sand, in. Hugo F. Spielhagen and other. Also published a children's magazine, Leisure & Case "(1864 - 66) and" Collected Translations with illustrations (1867 - 78).
