A descendant of Josц? Marцґa Dцґaz Ordaz, the assistant leader of the Mexican 19-th century, Benito Juц?rez, Gustavo served as president of the Supreme Court in his home state of Puebla to the election of a deputy of the National Congress in 1943. After 3 years Diaz became a senator.
In the years 1952-56 Diaz Ordaz held several positions in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and in 1958 he headed the agency in the government of President Adolfo Lopez Mateos. In July 1964, Diaz was elected president as candidate of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario Institucional), won with its predecessor.
. The main goal of the administration Diaz Ordaz was the economic development of Mexico
. October 2, 1968, government forces and the police dispersed a student demonstration. This bloody clash has been called "Massacre of Tlatelolco". Although official data contain information on 40 students who were killed when troops opened fire on the demonstrators, other reports mention the hundreds of deaths.
. In 1970, Diaz Ordaz left the presidency of the country, but continued to cause a negative public reaction a few years after
. In 1977, when he was appointed ambassador to Spain, the writer Carlos Fuentes resigned as ambassador to France in protest, and Mexican newspapers again adversely commented on the severe measures taken by the government during the "massacre at Tlatelolco". Four months after the appointment of Diaz announced his resignation, which he said was associated only with the eye disease.
Diaz Ordaz died July 15, 1979 in Mexico City.
