Alphonse XII (Alfonso XII)

(1857-1885)
Born November 28, 1857 in Madrid. At age 11, was sent into exile with his mother, Isabella II. In 1870, when his mother renounced the crown in his favor, Alphonse became pretender to the throne of the Bourbon dynasty. Was intended to Spain only in 1874, after the completion of formal education at Sandhurst (England). Helped end karlistskih wars and the pacification of the country. Alfonso XII died in Madrid on November 24, 1885; heir was his son, Alfonso XIII, who was born after the death of Alfonso XII.
