Biography Guillaume Apollinaire (Apollinaire Guillaume)
(1880-1918) His real name Kostrovitsky (Kostrowitsky): on his mother he was a Pole, father's name remained unknown. He studied at the Lycц?e Saint-Charles in Monaco. In 1898 arrived in Paris, published the first poems. In 1913 published his first book - Alcohol (Alcools). In the initial period of his work influenced by symbolism. During the First World War, wrote most of the poems published in 1918 in the collection Kalligrammy (Calligrammes). War poet greeted enthusiastically, seeing in her latest apotheosis of Beauty. By reviving the old technique of 'graffiti' (inscriptions), he created paintings with lines of poetry. Becoming the herald of Cubism, Apollinaire introduced to the audience with the new direction in the artist book-Cubists (Les Peintres cubistes, 1913). Among his prose works include the tale Assassinated Poet (Le Pote assassine, 1916), a novel Seated Woman (La Femme assise, publ. 1920) and a collection of stories Heresiarch and Co (L'Heresiarque et Cie, 1910). In 1917 they staged his 'surreal drama' breasts Teiresias (Mamelles de Tirsias). Died Apollinaire in Paris on Nov. 9, 1918.
