Biography Jean Pierre Franö¿ois Blanchard (Blanchard Jean Pierre Franois)
(1753-1809) Born July 4, 1753 in Les Andelys. In the 1770's unsuccessfully tried to build a flying machine heavier than air - maholet, and after the flight of the Montgolfier brothers in 1783 in a balloon engaged in the creation of balloons. At its first balloon filled with hydrogen, in 1784, made several flights in France, then in England. January 7, 1785, together with an American doctor Dzh.Dzheffrisom flew across the English Channel, off from Dover and landed in the woods near Calais in France. Having made several demonstration flights in Europe, Blanchard went to America. Here, January 9, 1793 flew from Philadelphia to New Jersey. The last flight of the sixtieth Blanchard (1808) ended with an accident. Blanchard died in Paris on 7 March 1809.
