Biography GRIS, Juan (Gris Juan)
(1887-1927) Born in Madrid on March 23, 1887, real name - Jose Victoriano Gonzalez (Jos Victoriano Gonzlez). Initially a living drawings for comic books and also studied painting. In 1906 Gris arrived in Paris and settled in Montmartre, not far from his compatriot Pablo Picasso. In the formative years, in the early Paris period (1906-1912), was carried away Gris Cubism. His early work (1911-1912) performed in 'analytical' manner, rising as a Cezanne or a Picasso and Braque. Rapidly developing, Gris already in 1913-1914 produces its own version of 'synthetic' Cubism. His paintings he defines as 'option plane, color architecture', or rather, its 'premonition', a harmonious arrangement of shapes and colors. He believed that 'the essence of painting - it is expressive interaction between the artist and the outside world', the picture is devoid of fine start, called 'flawed technical exercise'. Version of Cubism, created by Gris, was more severe and classical behavior, less spontaneous than that of Braque or Picasso. In 1920-1927 canvases the artist cultivates 'refined and estetizirovannuyu side of painting, for which previously there was no place in his work'. As a result, his style has acquired an extraordinary freedom and lyricism, while the courage and completeness. Gris died in Boulogne-Billancourt (France) 11 May 1927.
