Biography John Cabot (Giovanni Cabot)
(ca. 1450-1499) Born c.. 1450 in Genoa. In 1461 the family moved to Cabot in Venice. In the service of a Venetian trading company, Cabot sailed the Eastern Mediterranean. Approximately in 1490 and came to England and settled in Bristol. I have received from King Henry VII patent approval authorities of England in all newly discovered lands, their colonization and trade with the colonies. Received financial support from the merchants of Bristol, May 2, 1497 Cabot sailed from Bristol on the ship 'Matthew', and already on June 24 landed on the shore o.Nyu-Faundlend, who took over the north-east coast of Asia. Cabot sailed along the coast to the east of the bay Sv.Lavrentiya to Cape Reis, and then returned to England. In 1498 undertook a second trip, on five ships, during which explored the east and west coast of Greenland and visited Baffin Island, Labrador and Newfoundland. Proceeding along the coast south to 38 б° N, found no traces of Oriental civilizations. Because of the limited food supplies Cabot was forced in the same 1498 to return to England, where he soon died.
