Biography KANO Alonso (Cano Alonso)
(1601-1667), nicknamed El Granadino Born March 19, 1601 in Granada, he studied in Seville, in 1637 he moved to Madrid, where he became friends with Velц?zquez and his recommendation in 1639 was appointed court painter. In 1644 due to suspicion of murdering his wife fled from Madrid to Valencia, but in 1649 decided to return to the capital. In 1652 Kano had left Madrid and settled in Granada. In 1667 he was appointed chief architect of the cathedral being built in Granada. When life Kano was called the Spanish Michelangelo, but later historians of art valued him not so highly. His most famous works - Bust of the Apostle Paul (1658-1660) from the cathedral in Granada, . sculpture The Immaculate Conception (1655-1656) from the Church of San Diego in Granada and the cycle of paintings The Seven Joys of Mary (1652-1654), . that, . like most of his works, . are in the Prado Museum, .
