Biography Carl XVI Gustaf
(p. 1946) Born in Stockholm on April 30, 1946. Father Carl Gustaf Adolf was killed in a plane crash in 1947. Karl became crown prince in 1950. He received education at home. He served in the Army, graduated from courses for commanders at the Higher School of Defense. In 1968-1969 he studied at Uppsala, and then at Stockholm University. Ascended the throne after the death of his grandfather Gustaf VI Adolf September 15, 1973. In 1976 he married Sylvia Zommerlat, a translator and native of Germany, whom he met at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972. Chosen Carl Gustaf was finally recognized by the royal family, parliament and began to enjoy great popularity as a 'popular' Queen Silvia. Carl Gustaf has three children, the eldest daughter Victoria is heir to the Swedish throne. Chairman of the World Organization of the Scout (1977), Chairman of the Swedish organization World Wildlife Fund WWF (1988), a member of numerous international committees and commissions. In 2001, visited Russia on a state visit at the invitation of President Vladimir V. Putin.
