Kцєthe Kollwitz (Kollwitz Kathe)

Born Kцєthe Schmidt was born in Koenigsberg, July 8, 1867. Studied Karl Stauffer-Bern and Herteriha in Munich. In 1890 began to engage in the engraving - etching and lithography and woodcuts later. In 1919, Kцєthe Kollwitz became the first female professor at the Berlin Academy of Arts, in 1933, the Nazis expelled her from the Academy. After 1935 the artist worked primarily in drawing and sculpture.
Kцєthe-Kollwitz-known for her lithographs and etchings depicting workers, mothers with children, people suffering from hunger, cold, poverty and war. During the First World War, the artist lost her son, all her art is colored in dark tragic tone. Kцєthe Kollwitz died in the castle near Dresden Moritsberg April 22, 1945.
