Biography Fernandez de Lizardi, Josö? Joaquö´n
(1776-1827) Born in Mexico City. In his youth, enthusiastically read French encyclopedists, in 1812 founded the satirical magazine 'El pensador Mexicana' ( 'The Mexican thinker'). He continued his journalistic activities until 1826, when the election victory of liberal forces put an end to attempts by conservatives to return the country under the rule of the Spanish crown. In 1816, Fernandez de Lizardi published the first Latin American novel Perikilo Sarniento (El Periquillo Sarniento), which depicted the mores of Mexican society. In the aesthetic aspect of the novel is a curious fusion of picaresque genre with local touch. Intricacies of the fate of the hero title page carry it through all social strata. So as the story complete with critical commentary by copyright, reveals the viciousness of all spheres of Mexican colonial society. Fernandez de Lizardi died in Mexico City on June 21, 1827
