Biography Jose Antonio Rojas (Rojas)
Rojas (Rojas), Josц? Antonio (1732 or 1743, Santiago - 1816) was a politician Chile. Born into a wealthy Creole family. In 1772-78 he lived in Spain, where he studied the works of the French materialists, ferried in Chile works of Diderot, Rousseau, Helvetius, Holbach. Upon his return to Chile launched a propaganda activities against the Spanish colonial regime, for which he was arrested (1780) and deported to Peru. Back home, began to prepare antiispanskogo uprising, which began in 1810. After the defeat of the patriot army at Rancagua in 1814, led to the temporary restoration of Spanish rule in Chile, was exiled to the island of Juan Fernandez, where he returned in 1816.
