Ensign Juan De (Encina Juan De)

Encinas was born in a village near Salamanca ca. 1469; there is evidence that he studied at the University of Salamanca. Subsequently he entered the service of the Duke of Alba (1492), in whose palace were presented first plays Ensign. After moving to Rome, became the head of the Vatican chapel under Pope Leo X. In 1519 he was ordained a priest and celebrated his first Mass in Jerusalem during the pilgrimage.
