Biography Ensign Juan De (Encina Juan De)
Encinas was born in a village near Salamanca ca. 1469; there is evidence that he studied at the University of Salamanca. Subsequently he entered the service of the Duke of Alba (1492), in whose palace were presented first plays Ensign. After moving to Rome, became the head of the Vatican chapel under Pope Leo X. In 1519 he was ordained a priest and celebrated his first Mass in Jerusalem during the pilgrimage.
Spanish drama based on the merits begins with the creation Ensign. Placide and Vitoriano (Plcida y Vitoriano), which are mythological characters and chanted earthly love, revealed the first stirrings of the Spanish Renaissance. Medieval values explicitly rejected in the Christina and Febee. To the delight of the court audience, he put the rural speech of his native province in the mouth of the Bethlehem shepherds. In action on the brawl (Auto de repeln) there are elements pikareski. Lyric Ensign, first collected in Kansonero (Cancionero - letters. Songbook, 1496), also reveals the poet's responsiveness to requests for public reading and fruitful treatment of folk tradition. Encina died in Leon in 1529.
