John Chrysostom; Ioannes Chrysostomos, Latin. Johannes, ca. 350-407 years. n. e., speaker, Greek Christian writer, Father of the Church. He was born in Antioch. Father's death was a profound education of mother. Studied rhetoric with Libanius, philosophy - in Andragata, and theology - under the leadership of Diodorus of Tarsus. In 386 g. was ordained a priest in 397 g. became bishop of Constantinople. In 401 g. held its first collision with the Empress Eudoxia, whom he publicly put to rebuke love of luxury and injustice, in 403 g. At the Synod under the oak tree was removed from his post as bishop and was sentenced to exile. Bunt public briefly returned to him the bishop's throne, but in 404 g. he was again expelled.
He died in exile in the Crimean mountains. - About the significance I.Z. evidenced by the fact that kept almost all his works. They can be divided into three groups: language, essays, letters. Speeches and homilite I.H. written in a lively, simple, albeit with great rhetorical skill, brought him in V. n. e. nickname "Chrysostom". In the treatises I.Z. considered moral issues (the monastic life, celibacy, education, suffering, etc.). This includes the famous treatise on the clergy Peri hierosynes. Preserved 236 messages I.Z. to different recipients. There are also many works (particularly speech), wrongly ascribed to him. I.Z. had a great influence on future generations, it has even been called "Christian Demosfenom" and his works were translated into many languages.
