Biography MANILA (Manilius)
Manilius; Manilius, I in. BC. e. / I in. n. e. by a Latin didactic poem astrological Astronomika (Astronomica) in 5 books devoted to the Emperor Tiberius. The product includes a description of heaven, explains the basic astrological concepts, says among other things on the horoscope, according to human life on the signs of the zodiac and astrological geography. M. was there a good poet, well read in Lucrezia, Virgil and Ovid. Influence of Lucretia is particularly noticeable in the introductions to individual books, in the mythological episodes (such as Andromeda and Perseus in the book. V) and in the successful delineation of human character. M. tries, however, argue with the views of Lucretius, the Epicurean, since he found the support of its world view in the philosophy of the Stoics. He was certainly a zealous reader of Posidonius, borrowed from the phenomena Arata and from work, attributed to two Egyptian wise men - Nehepso and Petosirisu (cm. Astrological works).
