Biography Marriott Edm
Marriott Edme (1620 - 12.V 1684) - French physicist, member of the Paris Academy of Sciences (1666), one of its founders. Born in Dijon. Martins was abbot of the monastery near Dijon.
The works belong to mechanics, heat, optics. In 1676 established the law of variation of a given mass of gas from the pressure at constant temperature (Boyle's law - Mariotte, this law was opened in 1661 by R. Boyle and R. Tounli). Predicted range of application of this law, in particular the calculation of altitude according to the barometer. Experimentally confirmed the formula Torricelli on the speed of the fluid, examined the lifting height of fountains, was the table height depending on the diameter of the hole. He studied the collision of elastic bodies, the oscillations of the pendulum. In the "Treatise on the impact or collision of bodies" (1678) summarized the research in this area. He proved an increase in the volume of water during freezing. Discovered in 1666 a blind spot in the eye, examined the color, in particular colored ring around the sun and the moon, studying the rainbow, the diffraction of light, radiant heat, showed the difference between heat and light rays. Produced a lot of different physical devices.
