AN. Popov graduated from Kazan University in 1865 with a degree candidate at the dissertation submitted "On the affinity of the carbon atom". In this work it was experimentally proved (contrary to what the German chemist Kolbe of disparity of the valences of carbon), . that all four units of affinity (valence of carbon atom) are identical, . that provided substantial support to the theory of chemical affinity п?.п?, . Butlerova.
In his doctoral thesis "On the oxidation of monohydric ketones, AN. Popov formulated the rule known oxidation of ketones, which became part of science called "Rule Popova. . . In 1869, the year of foundation of the Warsaw University, Popov was invited to this university for the post of extraordinary professor.
