Aldanov (real name - Landau), Mark A. (1886 - 1957), writer.
Born on October 25 (November 7, NS) in Kiev in an intellectual family of a wealthy sugar. Received an excellent education.
At eighteen, after graduating from the classical school, fluent in German, French, English, knew Latin and Greek.
The University of Kiev in 1910, both graduated from two faculties: the legal and physical-mathematical (in the department of chemistry). In the year of graduation in the "University Izvestia published his memoir.
Soon after coming to Paris to continue their education during the First World War, returned to Petrograd, involved in developing ways to protect the population against chemical weapons. But this time they owned the other life plans. He began work on a study of Tolstoy and Rolland (1915), which drew the attention of the reading public and critics.
October Revolution did not take Aldanov. His journalistic work "Armageddon", published in 1918, was regarded as sedition and seized. In March 1919 he emigrated to France Aldanov. In Paris, tried to get in publishing, but to no avail. In 1922 - 24 lives in Berlin, then again - in Paris. Collaborated in the newspapers "Latest News" and "Days", published in various journals. After the Nazi occupation of France Aldanov went to the U.S.. In New York, took an active part in organizing the "New Journal". The magazine published Bunin and Merezhkovsky, Kuprin Khodasevich, Tsvetaeva, and Nabokov, and many other Russian emigre writers. It was published the first story Aldanova (1921), and since that time almost every room placed excerpts from his works and articles.

Last ten years of life spent in Europe Aldanov. In 1947 he returned to France, he settled in Nice. In November 1956 celebrated its 70-year anniversary. Three months later he was gone - he died February 25, 1957 in Nice.
