Benningsen Leonti Leontievich (1745-1826) - military leader, a native of Hanover, Baron, served in the Russian army from 1773 to 1818, Earl, General (1812). Member of a palace coup March 11, 1801 (the murder of Paul I). In the war with France, the Russian army (1801). In the Patriotic War of 1812 - Chief of General Staff, in November 1812 removed from his post for intrigue. Commander of the Second Russian (south) army in the years 1814-1818. Dismissed from service for the inept command, he left Russia.
