Biography FREYDEBURG Hans Georg von (Freideburg)
Freydeburg, Hans Georg von (Freideburg), (1895-1945), Admiral, the last chief of the navy of Germany. Born July 15, 1895 in Strasbourg. In 1914 he became a cadet in the Imperial Navy, in 1917 went to serve in the submarine fleet. In 1933 was promoted to lieutenant-commander, and the following year, at the request of Heinrich Himmler, was appointed to the headquarters of the fleet command. Within 8 days, from May 1 to May 9, 1945 Freydeburg was commander of naval forces. In this capacity, he was one of the signatories of the unconditional surrender of Germany in Reims May 7, 1945. Committed suicide May 23, 1945 in Myurvine.
