Biography Hugh I the Great
Hugh I the Great (895 - 16.6.956), Count of Paris, the Duke of the Franks (936 - 956), married with a 922 at the Judith, the second time in 938 years of Hedwig (910 - 10.5.965), daughter of Edward I the Elder (875 - 17.7.924), King of England (np. 901 - 924), the third time Gatuide, daughter of Henry the Fowler, Emperor of Germany. He could become king after the death of King Raoul, in 936, but he preferred to be a strong feudal lord with a weak King Louis IV. A struggle for power, which was attended by all the nobles of the Empire, switches on the King of Germany and the Duke of Lorraine. In 945, Louis IV was in the hands of the Duke and thrown into prison. However, under pressure from other feudal lords, the year King was released.
