Biography Conrad Ferdinand Meyer
Meyer, Conrad Ferdinand (Meyer, Conrad Ferdinand) (1825-1898), Swiss poet, author of historical novels. Born October 11, 1825 in Zurich. For a long time could not elect a field, oscillating between law, painting, pedagogy, and writing, but in 1860 decided to become a writer. Meyer died in Kilhberge near Zurich on Nov. 28, 1898.

Meyer works written by him at the age of forty-five to sixty-five years. The art of Michelangelo and theology of Jean Calvin had a profound effect on his self-determination, and the material for his novels, he drew almost exclusively from the Renaissance and Reformation. Perhaps the most famous of his short story - "Holy" (Der Heilige, 1879), tells the story of the English martyr T. Becket. Perhaps the most personal and 'confessional' and yet the most advanced topics - Meyer's short story "The suffering of a boy" (Das Leiden eines Knaben, 1883).

Symbolism, capacious phrases saturation, clarity of descriptions made ballads Meyer in a unique. Less bright his lyrical poems, mostly elegiac in mood. In the poem "The Last Days Hutten" (Huttens letzte Tage, 1871) expressed sympathy to the Meyer dialing force germanskomu nationalism.
