Viktor Zubkov and Islam Karimov discussed Russian-Uzbek relations
The relations between Uzbekistan and Russia "will develop further", Uzbek President Islam Karimov said at the Friday meeting with Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov at his presidential residence. Karimov welcomed the Russian premier at the presidential palace.
"The sides discussed the priority issues of bilateral cooperation and exchanged detailed views on key international and regional problems of mutual interest," the Russian government press service reported.
The meeting between the Russian prime minister and the Uzbek president "was held in a traditionally friendly and constructive atmosphere pertaining to Russian-Uzbek relations built on the principles of strategic partnership and allied ties," the press service said.
Islam Karimov noted great importance of his personal relations with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Karimov also thanked Viktor Zubkov for the assistance in creating the financial monitoring service in Uzbekistan that is similar to the Russian agency. Before his premiership Zubkov headed the financial intelligence service in Russia.
