Elizabeth Taylor is reportedly engaged for the ninth time
The 78-year-old actress is said to be planning to wed celebrity manager Jason Winters, 49, after three years of dating. It will be Elizabeth`s ninth time down the aisle, and she will be forced to do so in a wheelchair as she is now so frail she cannot walk unaided.
A friend of Elizabeth`s told Us Weekly magazine that Jason got down on one knee several days ago, and star was thrilled to accept. Representatives for the couple have yet to confirm the news, but offered a cryptic hint that the rumours could be true.
"We generally don`t respond to queries regarding her relationship status, but it is well known and documented that they have been together for some time," Elizabeth ?s spokesman said in a statement.
The engagement news is unlikely to surprise Elizabeth and Jason`s friends and family members, who have been expecting them to get married for years.
"It`s no secret that they`ve been together forever and are in love, so it wouldn`t be a surprise if they were engaged," one insider said. "Right now they are keeping it between them."
Elizabeth and Jason were first revealed to be a couple in 2007, when they went on a romantic holiday to Hawaii together. While there, a reporter saw Elizabeth "caressing" Jason, and friends of the actress confirmed she had "fallen in love again".
The following year, Elizabeth gushed about Jason during an interview, branding him "wonderful" and declaring her love for him.
"He is one of the most wonderful men I`ve ever known, that`s why I love him," she said.
Elizabeth has been married eight times, twice to actor Richard Burton and once to hotel magnate Conrad Hilton, British actor Michael Wilding, Mike Todd, Eddie Fisher and John Warner.
Her most recent union, to construction worker Larry Fortensky, ended in divorce in 1996 after five years.
Elizabeth has three children with two husbands.
