Matthew Morrison pays tribute to Swayze
Matthew Morrison has praised Patrick Swayze for making dance "manly".
Matthew portrays teacher Will Schuester is American musical programme Glee. The star made his name in musical theatre, and has appeared in Broadway shows. In Glee, Matthew is often seen showing off his dance moves, and has revealed he loves strutting his stuff wherever possible.
"I do love to dance. I think that was my first inspiration, or my first tribute to the arts. I`m a big fan of Gene Kelly, he made dance very cool and very masculine," Matthew explained. "He was a strong dancer, you saw a man. Patrick Swayze was like that for me too. He studied ballet growing up as well, he made it very manly."
One of the first routines Matthew performed in the show was to Kanye West`s Gold Digger. The star was initially unsure about the choice as it involves rapping, but he was thrilled with the result.
"That was actually a lot of fun. When they told me I was going to have to rap I was like, `Oh! I don`t know about this!` It ended up being a lot of fun," he explained. "I grew up break dancing and stuff, so I listened to rap music when I was break dancing."
