Sheryl Crow pays tribute to Jackson
Sheryl Crow paystribute to the late Michael Jackson on her new album, and says he had a big influence on her music.
Sheryl was a huge fan of the King of Pop - who died last June - when she was growing up and has revealed he helped launch her career. The star toured with Jackson in the1980s, and she has recorded a cover version of the Jackson 5 song I Want You Back as a "sort of homage" to him on her new album 100 Miles fromMemphis.
"The Jackson5`s ABC record was the first album I ever owned, and Michael ended up giving me my first gig as a back-up singer," the singer told the BBC.
"It was a bitter-sweet moment for me to sing that song with the experience that I`d had with him. Like so many other people, I didn`t really weigh the importance of his presence until he was gone."
The 48-year-old singer, who has battled breast cancer in the past, says she returned to her"earliest influences" from growing up near Memphis, Tennessee, for her new album. The record also features Rolling Stone rocker Keith Richards on one of the tracks, and Memphis-born Justin Timberlake sings on Sheryl`s cover version of Terence Trent D`Arby hit song Sign Your Name.
