Mel Gibson had a 10-day hypnotherapy session
The `Edge of Darkness` star is currently being investigated by police following allegations he attacked ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva during a violent row, and has sought help from top hypnotist Rick Collingwood in a bid to deal with the fall-out.
Rick - founder of The Australian Academy of Hypnosis - flew in from Perth, Australia, to Mel`s Los Angeles mansion to start the 10-day course and was impressed with his client`s behaviour.
He said: "I gave him a few sessions to help him with the stress he is obviously experiencing at the moment.
"I must say that he is a far nicer person that what is being portrayed presently in the media. It will be interesting to see the results when all of the truths are revealed during the ongoing legal saga."
However, Rick refused to reveal exactly what treatment Mel received, telling RadarOnline.com: "The nature of the therapy is of course confidential, but it does show that they were both reaching out for help.
"Hypnosis can be used very effectively as a therapy for anything that is the human condition, to change behaviour and habits - and also for self improvement."
Russian singer Oksana - who has a nine-month-old daughter Lucia with Mel - has claimed the 54-year-old actor hit her in the face, breaking her teeth, and threatened to kill her during the alleged attacked on January 6.
Mel has denied this.
