Medvedev advises Russians to learn Chinese and Chinese to learn Russian
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev who started on Sunday his official visit to China advised Russians to learn Chinese and Chinese citizens to learn Russian.
"Our countries have very close relations. The more Chinese know Russian and the more Russians know Chinese, the stronger and the more versatile our relations will be," Medvedev said during his visit to the Russian language center of the Dalian Institute of Foreign Languages.
Medvedev attended lessons at the Russian language center to see Chinese students watch Russian-language TV channels and read books by the great Russian writers Leo Tolstoy and Ivan Turgenev. The students told the Russian president that they were studying Russian using individual programs.
During a three-day visit, the Russian president will meet with Chinese leader Hu Jintao and other top officials in Beijing and attend the 2010 Expo in Shanghai.
Medvedev and Jintao will also attend a ceremony to launch the Chinese section of the Russian East Siberia - Pacific oil pipeline, stretching from the town of Skovorodino in the Amur region to the city of Daqing in China`s northeastern Heilongjiang province.
