Russia not to base in Uzbekistan
Russian Federation is not going to create a military base in Uzbek town Khanabad.
According to RIA "Novosti" vice-premier of Russian government, Defense minister Sergey Ivanov said about that Thursday. "I can say officially we have no plans of creation a military base in Khanabad. I don?t know who started this false report", - said minister. He reminded Russia has the military base in Central Asian region - in Kanta (Kirghizia). "We don?t need the second base there", - explained Ivanov.
Information that Russian soldiers may start building in Uzbekistan appeared after signing a treaty of alliance in the beginning of November by two presidents. There was an article about opportunity of using territories for creation military bases.
USA air force units based in Khanabad earlier. Americans left the air-base 21 November. USA rented that object since 2001 for supporting the operation in Afghanistan. Uzbekistan demanded American soldiers to left the airdrome within six months on July 2005.
