Russian boxer Valuev became world champion in super heavyweight
Russian heavyweight boxer Nikolai Valuev became world champion in super heavyweight category in WBA version.
Valuev has defeated American John Ruis in 12-th round on arena named after Max Shmeling in Berlin.
One out of 3 referees put equal marks to both sportsmen - 114:114, while the rest gave victory to Valuev with score 116:113 and 116:114.
Nikolaev Valuev became the first Russian boxer for 120-year history of professional boxing, who managed to win champion title in most prestige weight category - among super heavyweights.
But as Nikolai Vauev won the champion belt in fair duel, he almost lost the trophy.
After the end of battle and announcement of results, Norman Stone, manager of Ruis, snatched champion belt from arms of Russian boxer and started to run with it over boxing ring. Only by mutual efforts of 5 guards Norman was forced to return the trophy to Nikolai Valuev.
