Moldavian president beware of further rise in prices for Russian gas
Growth of prices for gas will negatively influence the situation in the republic. "At present moment gas is 39% more expensive than in 2004. We used to pay $80 and now we pay $100 for thousand cubic meters of gas".
"The concluded treaty with "Gazprom" is valid till April 1 and there is no information about price offers after this date", - has announced Voronin on Saturday. "I don`t want to dictate concrete prices for "Gazprom". We will carry on dialogue, discuss price and other conditions, - noted Moldavian president. - The matter concerns not only gas purchase. We have special relationships with "Gazprom" - we own mutual enterprise "Moldova-Gas".
"Russian gas is supplied through "Gazprom" system to this enterprise. "Gazprom" holds more than 60% of "Moldova-Gas" shares. We own mutual business with "Gazprom" and I think the company will take this fact into consideration. Moreover, income taxes are 2.2 times lower in Moldavia than in Russia. If prices go up till $160 for thousand cubic meters of gas, it will affect population as well as economic agents. Increase will touch all spheres, starting from prices for bread and ending with communal tariffs", - noted Voronin.
