Sychev case initiated Russian support for contract army
The case of maimed servicemen Andrei Sychev from Chelyabinsk tank institute persuaded Russian citizens in need for contract service in army.
According to poll of All-Russian center of public opinion investigation, number of respondents advocating for formation of contract army exceeds draft supporters.
Almost all participants of the poll have heard about Sychev case (93%). 35% of questioned blame army for the incident with the servicemen, 32% lay responsibility on society. Among 1600 respondents in 46 regions, 50% supported army on contract base, 45% advocated for drafting service.
Andrei Sychev was beaten on New Year Eve by elder servicemen. As a result of beating the soldier got gangrenous inflammation and was amputated legs and genitals. At present moment the soldier undergoes medical treatment in Moscow military hospital named after Burdenko.
