Russian speed skater Svetlana Zhurova became Olympic champion
Russian team has won 4-th gold medal at Olympic Games in Torino. Speed skater Svetlana Zhurova became an Olympic champion in ladies` 500 m race. Chinese skaters Wang Manli and Hui Ren took second and third places correspondingly. Last time Russian speed skaters won Olympic gold in 1994.
Svetlana Zhurova demonstrated best result of 38.23 seconds during first attempt being 0.08 seconds ahead of Chinese Manli. At second race Russian and Chinese skaters were competing with each other. Zhurova had to outrun the rival for victory, which she did. The best time of second race demonstrated another Chinese Hui Ren but unsuccessful first run allowed her to win only bronze.
It should be mentioned that Svetlana became World champion in sprint all-round competitions this year. Such accomplishments prove that her success is not an accident. At present moment Russian Olympic Game has 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
