Sberbank creates Russian national payment system
President of Sberbank Andrey Kazmin announced about opening of largest Russian payment system "Sberkarta" for exterior banks.
If this project is successful then other Russian payment systems will leave market and "Sberkarta" will compete as equals with Visa and MasterCard.
For realization of this project was established close corporation "Sberkarta" among which stock holders are National reserve bank, Interregional investment bank, "RG-Leasing" and Australian company BGS Smartcard Systems A. G.
Sberbank has 26% of stock in new company which provides a sufficient control of its activity. There is no information about stock parts of other participants.
"Sberkarta" president became Aleksandr Kapustin. The main aim of "Sberkarta" is to arrange mass daily payments of citizens with plastic cards. "Sberkarta" negotiates with Russian banks which are ready to co-operate.
The amount of "Sberkarta" cards exceeds 3 millions; they are accepted in more than 11000 terminals. One can encash their credit cards in more than 5000 cash payment stations and 3000 cash machines.
