Foreign Affairs: the West will not be able to divide the Russian Federation and China
The West mistakenly aware of the reasons why Russia and China are actively developing cooperation with each other, the rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing should be explained not so much by material interests, but by the sense of shared identity, writes Professor at Princeton University Gilbert Rozman, on the pages of the magazine.
in 1990-ies Western politicians believed that relations between Russia and China looks like a " marriage of convenience " and, if necessary, the national desire, and good relations with the West, outweigh them, but Western governments have failed to understand that Moscow and Beijing regret tensions of the cold war, says the Creator. The current authorities of both countries have plans not to repeat past mistakes and not to demonstrate the superiority of one to another to reach the goal - namely, to minimize the influence of the West in the main for their regions, says Rozman.
There are several reasons to believe that mutual support of Russia and China one another will last a long time. Most importantly, both parties have a common Communist and socialist past (and for Beijing this and present), are the positions of antihegemonic towards the West and with respect to the geopolitical interests of one another, although in some ways they intersect, says the expert. In addition, both Countries believe that the global financial crisis of 2008 testifies to the fact that Western political and economic model on the verge of failure.
Also Russia and China have succeeded to occupy similar positions in international disputes, despite some unresolved internal issues of state support one another on the world stage, for example in 2014, Moscow and Beijing have supported one another in the Ukrainian question in the question of Hong Kong, says the Creator.
The behavior of Russia and China on the international arena is a sign of a new geopolitical structure of the end of the cold war, and, as long as the rule States remain their Present leaders, the West should not expect significant changes in Russian-Chinese relations, says the expert.
" the States, which I hope to share these two States, such as Japan, under the leadership of the current Prime Minister Shinzo Abe - will be disappointed.
