Last World War I veteran died in Australia
At the age of 106 years died the last veteran who participated in World War I.
William Evan Allan was born on 1899. He started his service in naval forces shortly before war when he was only 14 years. From 1915 till 1918 Allan was a sailor on Encounter ship. Ship was patrolling Pacific and Atlantic oceans and even participated in search of German ship "Wolf" which attacked ally ships.
During World War II Allan served on cruiser and naval base. Veteran gave 34 years to Navy, rose to the rank of lieutenant. In retirement Allan became a farmer.
Allan will be buried with all state honors. Date of ceremony will be called later.
After Allan`s death the oldest Australian veteran became 106-year old John Campbell Ross who started his service in 1918 but never participated in operations and even didn`t leave Australian territory.
