Zoshchenko
Mikhail Mikhailovich (1895 - 1958), novelist, playwright.
Born July 29 (August 10 Research Fellow) in Poltava in the family of the artist. After graduating from high school in St. Petersburg in 1913 entered the Faculty of St. Petersburg University. The outbreak of World War interrupted training. In 1915, completed an intensive military courses, Zoshchenko went to the front. He participated in many battles. was injured and subjected to gassing. He had four military orders.
In 1915 - 1917 held various military posts, and after the February revolution was the commandant of the Main Post Office and Telegraph Petrograd. After the October Revolution, joined the Red Army and served in the frontier troops in Kronstadt, then transferred to the army until the spring of 1919 was adjutant of the regiment at the front of the rural poor.
In April 1919 he was demobilized from heart disease and began serving as an investigator in the Criminal Supervision. In 1920 enrolled at the Petrograd military port clerk, from this time began to engage in literary activities. In 1921 published the first book of short stories Zoshchenko, followed by a series of collections of short stories: "sentimental novel" (1923 - 36), "Blue Book" (1935), "The historical novel", etc..
Significant place in the work Zoshchenko occupy satires, is a direct response to "reports from the field and readers' letters. He worked in the Leningrad newspaper, radio and in the "Crocodile".
Since the beginning of World War II was evacuated to Alma-Ata (worked in the studio scenario "Mosfilm"). Spring of 1943 he returned to Moscow, was a member of the editorial board of "Crocodile".
In 1944 - 1946 worked a lot for theater. Two of his comedies were set in the Drama Theater of Leningrad, one of which - "canvas briefcase" - passed the 200 submissions per year.
In August 1946, after the Central Committee decision on the journals Zvezda and Leningrad, creativity Zoshchenko been subjected to sharp criticism, and he was expelled from the Writers' Union. In 1946 - 1953 mainly engaged in translation work.
In June 1953 Zoshchenko was readmitted to the Union of Writers. In his later years he worked in the magazines "Crocodile" and "Ogonyok. Died Zoshchenko in Leningrad, July 22, 1958.
