Biography Peter Alekseevich Alekseev (writer)
(1727 - 1801), a member of Russia's Academy of Sciences. The son of the sexton, he studied at the Moscow Slavo-Greco-Latin Academy. Was a staunch opponent of monasticism, rebelled against his dominant position among the Russian clergy, which caused his struggle with the Metropolitan Platon. He left a number of original and translated works, issued a "Church Dictionary" (M., . 1773 - 76), . intended for reference when reading church books, . philological work and historical and exegetical, . attests to his extensive erudition, . embracing nearly all the subjects of classical and medieval world and served as a source for compiling dictionaries later time.,
