Biography Anote Gabriel (Hanotaux Gabriel)
(1853-1944) Born in Borevuare (Aisne), 19 November 1853. He studied at the Paris School of Law, receiving a Licentiate, as well as the Ecole de Shart. Became a teacher of the School of Higher Studies in 1880. In 1879 he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1894-1898 (with short break) was the Minister of Foreign Affairs. During this period, France has strengthened its presence in Africa (West Africa, Madagascar, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan), which led to strained relations with Britain, and has taken important steps to conclude an alliance with Russia. Among other works - Illustrated History of the war in 1914 (Histoire illustre de La guerre, 1914, 1915-1926). Was President of the French Academy. Hanoteau died in Paris on April 11, 1944.
