BUDGE, Ernest Alfred Wallis (Budge Ernest Alfred Wallis)

Born in Cornwall, July 27, 1857. He graduated from Christ's College, Cambridge University, where he studied Semitic. In 1885-1924 was the curator of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities of the British Museum. Budge led excavations in Mesopotamia (Nineveh and Der) and Africa (Aswan and Gebel Barkal - the ancient capital of Ethiopia). Among the transfers, made scientists - the Egyptian Book of the Dead (The Book of the Dead, 1899, revised edition 1909) and Coptic homilite (Coptic Homilies, 1910), relating to the early stage of the history of the Christian Church. Among his major works - Literature of the Ancient Egyptians (The Literature of the Ancient Egyptians, 1914), By Nile and Tigris (By Nile and Tigris, 1920) and the inhabitants of the Nile Valley (The Dwellers on the Nile, 1926). In 1920 was elevated to the dignity of knighthood. Budge died in London on 23 November 1934.
